PUBG Mobile Lite has gained immense popularity since coming out about a year ago, and July 25 will mark the very first anniversary of the battle royale game. The Lite version of the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is highly popular in India and has more than 100 million downloads on the Google Play Store.

The first anniversary of PUBG Mobile Lite is only ten days away, and it’s obvious that the game developers have something planned for the big day. Tencent Games recently rolled out the new PUBG beta version 0.18.0 to test out the new features offered in the game. It offers several modifications and changes that players can try out before its global release. The beta update brings a new Popularity mode, TDM ruins mode, Slide feature, and also the First Anniversary lobby.

Bloody Roar (ブラッディロア Buraddi Roa) is a series of fighting games created by Hudson Soft, and developed together with Eighting. The series has been published by multiple companies, including Virgin Interactive, Activision, and Konami. Konami holds the rights to the franchise after Hudson Soft was absorbed into the former company in 2012.[1]

The series began in 1997 under the name Beastorizer. The game’s theme incorporated anthropomorphism, where the player has the ability to transform into a half-human, half-animal creature known as a Zoanthrope (the name came from the clinical term, ‘zoanthropy’, which is similar to that of lycanthropy). The game would appear under the name “Bloody Roar” when ported to the PlayStation in 1998, which would become the permanent title thereafter.

Gameplay
Bloody Roar has kept somewhat the same controls over the series. A button each for both punch and kick, the beast (transform/attack) button and a fourth button that has been either a throw button, a block button, an evade button (introduced for some characters in Bloody Roar 4) and a rave button (an early version of the Hyper Beast in the original Bloody Roar only).

The Bloody Roar series is a 3D fighting game in the same vein as Tekken, Soulcalibur and Virtua Fighter. Although some of the characters have remained almost identical through all four games, others have changed completely. For example, Yugo has a completely different move set in the fourth title compared to his original in the first and Bakuryu has stayed almost the same apart from a few extras which are relevant to the games’ evolution over time and generations.

Characters in Bloody Roar have command moves and standard moves. Standard moves are the combination style moves from games such as Tekken, where the player must press different buttons to create “combos”, sometimes pressing the directional pad in one of the eight directions at the same time. Command moves are special moves that require a rolling technique and inputting certain commands with the directional pad, like Street Fighter. Each character has around fourteen “suggested” combination techniques listed in the manual, most of these can be varied into many different ways, allowing nearly forty to seventy combination techniques with each character. Every character also comes with at least eight command moves, which can be incorporated into cancel points in these standard moves or combos. These cancel points, from character to character, can be around twenty to forty in each character’s combo palette. These cancel points, when utilized with command moves, can then be cancelled once more, allowing the player to begin a new strategy with adequate timing. As well as this, the combat system has three types of dodging techniques: a heavy and light block that spans over three parts of the body, instead of the typical two in most fighting games; and “Scratch” techniques, which can break guards from dead angles and is a series of command counters, throws and vanishing attacks. Bloody Roar 4, the latest game in the series, may be the most complex of the series, with the largest fighter roster of seventeen characters, and the ability to earn more moves by earning experience in “Career Mode”.

Alice

Alice Nonomura (野々村アリス Nonomura Arisu) (Alice Tsukagami (塚神アリス Tsukagami Arisu) in Bloody Roar) is a rabbit zoanthrope who was kidnapped as a child by a secret research institution that conspired to use zoanthropes as weapons. After being subjected to physical experimentation, her latent powers were awakened, after which she was used as a test subject and given battle training. However, she managed to escape the institution before being brainwashed, earning herself the freedom she had long sought. While hiding herself to regain her composure, she began to worry about a girl that Alice befriended in the institution. Because the girl sacrificed herself by distracting Alice’s pursuers during her escape, Alice decided to come out of hiding and fight against the institution.[2] After the events of the story, Alice is adopted by her aunt Mitsuko and lives a peaceful life as a part of her family.[3]

Bakuryū (first)/Kōryū

Bakuryū (バクリュウ Bakuryū), real name Ryūzō Katō (加東竜三 Katō Ryūzō) is a mole zoanthrope and a self-styled master of the traditional ninja arts. His personal details are veiled in secrecy and his existence is a mystery. An expert in assassination, he was enlisted in an infamous underground organization and put in charge of sabotage and the abduction of zoanthropes for experimentation.[4] After the events of the story, Bakuryū’s molecules destabilize, causing his body to completely decompose. As a result, the scientists of the Tyron Corporation decide to concentrate their efforts on a new conversion process.[5]

Busuzima

As a child, Hajime Busuzima was curious about the internal mechanics of insects, dissecting them just to find out how they moved. His grandmother pointed out to him that the insect no longer moved because it was dead. Eventually, she too ‘no longer moved’ and Busuzima became very lonely. It was then that he became obsessed with the idea of immortality, beginning his slow descent into madness. Many years later, Busuzima was employed by the Tylon corporation as one of their top researchers. It was during this time that he conducted unorthodox experiments on himself and became a Zoanthrope chameleon. At Tylon he befriended a fellow researcher by the name of Steven Goldberg, with whom he had a friendly rivalry. Eventually Goldberg became uncomfortable with the experimentation going on, enraging Busuzima, who felt his plans were being interfered with. He used his friend as a test subject for creating an insect Zoanthrope, believing that Goldberg would understand things better if he became a Zoanthrope himself. Unfortunately, the experiment was a failure, leaving Goldberg (now called Stun) in an unstable state. Soon after, Tylon fell to a group of Zoanthropes fighting against the company to stop their experimentation. Over the next five years, Busuzima started his own group known as the Zoanthrope Liberation Front – ZLF – using Shenlong, a clone of the former Tylon assassin Long, as the front man, while he stayed behind the scenes, continuing to conduct his experiments and amassing a Zoanthrope army that struck fear into the hearts of confused humans.

Cronos
Voiced by: Tomohiro Tsuboi (Japanese); Cam Clarke (English)
Prince of the Kingdom of Zoanthropes. Childhood friend of Shina. Cronos has several unanswered questions about his father, such as the experiments that his father keeps performing on his people and how his mother died. He feels that joining the tournament will answer these questions. He is the only character to have two beast forms, a phoenix and a penguin.

Fang
Voiced by: Eiji Sekiguchi
Bonus character from the manga, Bloody Roar: The Fang. Fang is the main protagonist within the manga, joining together with a young school girl, Mashiro, in dealing with other Zoanthropes (and other strange creatures) causing trouble in their area. Eventually he has to face off against a dark creature that was brought to life by the joining of four talismans. Fang, using special gloves, can break the beast transformation—he uses his power to defeat the evil entity.

Fox
Voiced by: Samantha Vega
Hans Taubemann (ハンス・ターブマン Hansu Tābuman) (nicknamed Fox (フォックス Fokkusu)) is an English fox zoanthrope with a warped mind and heightened aesthetic sense. He is obsessed with beauty and despises ugly things, boasting of his good looks and publicly declaring all else ugly. Abandoned as a child and raised in the slums, he grew up into a well-known scoundrel. He earned the nickname of Fox from his wariness and cruelty in beating up even the very weakest. He works for the Organization in the same unit as Bakuryū and engages in such activities as kidnapping and murder.[6] After the events of the story, Fox kills another civilian, but is shocked to discover that it is his own mother.[7]

Gado

Alan Gado (アラン・ガドウ Aran Gadōu) is a French lion zoanthrope, a professional mercenary and military genius who took part in a mission with his best friend and Yūgo’s father, Yūji, years ago. On that day, his union of armies was crushed by a combined force of superior zoanthropes and a hostile army that appeared out of nowhere. Gado was seriously injured in the battle and lost his sight in one eye. Afterward, he went off to search for Yūji and discover the identity of the enemy.[8] At the end of the game, he destroys the Tyron Corporation, finally exacting revenge for Yūji. After Gado’s arrest, police discover the Tyron Corporation’s secret lab and accumulate enough evidence against the Tyron Corporation to drop charges against Gado. Afterward, desiring the thrill of battle, Gado returns to the battlefield and promises Yūji that they will meet again in the heavens.[9]

Ganesha

Ganesha the zoanthrope Elephant didn’t know what to do. He had won all the local tournaments and qualified for the national competition. But he knew if he beat all the guest warriors, he would be a rival against Cronos. He knew he had to do it. He thinks back, to a chaotic day some time ago. Burning houses… Frightened people trying to escape… A child growing cold in his arms… A monster standing amongst the flames… It was humans to start wars like this, but it was that monster that derived everything. He mutters, ‘Prince Cronos’ to himself.

Greg
Voiced by: Barry Gjerde
Gregory Jones (グレゴリー・ジョーンズ Guregorī Jōnzu) (Greg (グレッグ Gureggu) for short) is an American gorilla zoanthrope who, in his youth, fulfilled his hope of running away to join a circus. Having a great talent for handling animals, he later took charge of the circus after the ringmaster retired. But with the rapid changes in the entertainment industry, the circus eventually went bankrupt and its members parted ways.[10] After the events of the story, Greg tries to talk Yūgo into joining his circus in an attempt to avert the circus’s closure, but is eventually convinced into being the star himself.[11]

Jenny

A woman surrounded in mystery. There are stories about her. Some say that because of an incomplete experiment, she has stopped aging, and others say she is a real life vampire from Hungary. It is known that Jenny Burtory is a top model. Though in truth, this is but a cover for her secret life – her occupation as a covert spy. Her skills are impressive enough for top companies to fight to seek allegiance with her. One day, Jenny is invited by Gado, an old acquaintance of hers, to investigate a suspicious organization. To kill her boredom, she takes up the invite and slips out into the cover of night, using her zoanthrope bat form.

Kenji/Bakuryū (Kakeru Ōgami)

He was born as the only son of a clan that worshiped the ‘Earth God’ in an isolated area outside of the urban cities. When he was young, he lost his parents and was taken into the care of an old ninja named ‘Bakuryu’. He took the boy and left the village, with the intention to train the boy with the pure blood of the ‘Earth Dragon’ to become his successor. The boy was taught all the ninja techniques of his teacher and was conferred the title ‘Bakuryu’, even displaying the power to become a mole. Together, they worked for the Tylon corporation as assassins until its fall. The original Bakuryu died, while his successor was left in a ruined building in a vegetative state because of an incomplete brainwashing. He was saved by Yugo, who’d fought against Tylon’s evil ambition. Yugo took the boy home, naming him ‘Kenji’ and adopting him as his ‘brother’. Slowly, Kenji regained his health and humanity and began to settle into a peaceful life. However, five years after being taken into Yugo’s care, the remnants of Tylon go after Kenji and kidnap him. He is re-brainwashed, reviving his memories as the ninja assassin ‘Bakuryu’. He serves Busuzima, fighting anyone who opposes the ZLF (Zoanthrope Liberation Front). Even Yugo.

Long

Long Shin (Jin Long) (進龍 Jin Ron) is a Chinese tiger zoanthrope who curses his fate and zoanthrope blood. When he was a child, his mother and younger sister died one after the other. Neglected by his workaholic father, Long ran away from his home. Afterward, his great skills in the martial arts and zoanthrope powers brought him recognition, and he was enlisted by an underground assassination unit.[12] After the events of the story, Long seals himself away from the world due to his zoanthrope blood.[13]

Mana

Mana, a kitsune able to become a small white fox, belongs to a secret temple that supports both the Buddhist and Shinto religions together (it had managed to escape the Meiji Restoration law that separated Buddhist and Shinto religious activities). She took over the role of her sister as her duty to the ninetails family to guard the seal of Gaia’s dragon. Ryoho, the dragon vessel whom she is guarding, lost his memories of the events that occurred during the tabula/XGC incident the year before and did not know of his own powers. Mana is taken under his care and, unbeknownst to him, she makes sure that the dragon stays sleeping behind the seal. Before she joined Ryoho, she had been the target of interest of unsavoury types after the powerful ninetails. The monk’s protection warded away any followers who finally left her alone. A year after the XGC incident, Mana feels the seal start to come loose. The power of the Unborn is growing and the dragon is disturbed. Because of the dragon’s immense power, earthquakes and Zoanthrope violence began to occur. The Unborn attacked the secret temple the year before and the dragon appeared, leaving it up to Mana’s sister to seal it. Mana pushes aside her doubts, knowing that she must find strong Zoanthropes to help her reseal the dragon. As she and Ryoho set out on a journey to protect their temple, she knows that Ryoho will soon learn the truth about himself.

Mitsuko

Mitsuko Nonomura (野々村光子 Nonomura Mitsuko) is a wild boar zoanthrope and everyday housewive with a massive body and generous nature. After her daughter (who is also a zoanthrope) was abducted, she went on a quest to find her, the only clue being the kidnapper’s steely eyes and insanely sardonic grin.[14] At the end of the game, she discovers her daughter Uriko and brings her home, where they lead a peaceful life.[15]

Nagi
Voiced by: Nawo Takamori (Japanese); Erica Ash (English)
During the XGC and tabula/crest incident, Nagi was mortally wounded while trying to stop Xion, who was on a rampage against the Zoanthropes to absorb power for the tabula. It was during this time that Gaia copied the Unborn powers and created ‘The Spurious’ in order to try and seek out the Unborn and absorb it into the body. With this power inside Nagi, she was able to survive the attack, though the power stayed dormant because Yugo and the others overcame the incident. A year later, Xion was taken over by the Unborn and ‘The Spurious’ began to awake. Nagi wanted to know more about this strange power that had awoken within her and set out on a journey to find Xion.

Reiji
Voiced by: Masakazu Suzuki (Japanese); Eric Kelso (English)
Deep in the mountains, there are four clans of fighting monks known as the ‘Yatagarasu’. Within these clans, the power of the beast transformation is passed down, though it is sealed until the inheritor is judged an adult. However, one of the heirs to the families, Reiji Takigawa, had his seal broken prematurely before the coming of age ceremony because of the crest/tabula incident (Bloody Roar 3), and gained the power to become a crow. Reiji, who deep down harboured destructive tendencies, used these newfound powers and killed his father, a member of the four clans, and fled the temple. Reiji went out in search of strong Zoanthropes, finding great pleasure in killing a powerful opponent, though now he is on the run from the remaining Yatagarasu who pursue him.

Ryōhō
Voiced by: Naomi Kusumi (Japanese); Angus Waycott (English)
Ryōhō belongs to a secret temple that supports both the Buddhist and Shinto religions together (which had managed to escape the Meiji Restoration law that separated Buddhist and Shinto religious activities), and is able to become a dragon. A year before there was an attack by the Unborn though after the incident, Ryōhō lost his memory. Shortly afterward, a young Shinto miko, Mana, appeared. She had the power of the legendary ninetails. When taken under Ryōhō’s care, people who were pursuing Mana for her power left her alone. A year later, earthquakes and Zoanthrope violence began to occur. To protect the temple, Ryōhō set out on a journey with Mana to face the evil that had caused these problems.

Shenlong

There exists an organization that stands for the liberation of Zoanthropes – for power and predominance over humans. This organization is called the ‘Zoanthrope Liberation Front’ (Also known as the Zoanthrope Release Battle Line.) Shenlong is their leader, a man who strikes fear into all who oppose him. He forces Zoanthropes to obey him with an iron fist. He is one of the most powerful and dangerous Zoanthropes to ever exist (able to become a white tiger) and the opposing administrations have nothing on him. His background is a complete mystery. But as he comes face to face with opposition against his group, he begins to question his own identity amongst the confusion of strangers who see the face of someone else.

Shina
Voiced by: Atsuko Tanaka (Bloody Roar 4) (Japanese); RuthAnn Morizumi (Bloody Roar II), Lenne Hardt (Bloody Roar 3), Vanessa Marshall (Bloody Roar: Primal Fury/Bloody Roar: Extreme), Karen Lee (Bloody Roar 4) (English)
Shina was an orphan of war, and a zoanthrope leopard. She was adopted as the daughter of the war veteran, Gado. Influenced by his status as a legendary mercenary, she began to demonstrate great capability for battle during her childhood. When she was 13 years old, she single-handedly obliterated a platoon, earning the nickname ‘Fighting Marvel’. Her father however, didn’t want his daughter to follow in his footsteps and tried to talk her into leading an ordinary life. Shina wouldn’t listen and as soon as she graduated high school, she became a mercenary. One day, her father disappears without a word. There are rumors that he is the organizer behind the ZLF, (Zoanthrope Liberation Front) a group that thrives on vicious terrorism. Shina doesn’t want to believe that her father is behind it. She will only make her judgment if she sees it with her own eyes. With that in mind, she follows her father’s trail to find out what his real intentions are.

Stun

Steven Goldberg (スティーブン・ゴールドバーグ Sutīben Gōrudobāgu) was a young, zealous scientist working for the multinational group, Tylon. He believed his research would contribute to saving people’s lives. In the same year that he joined the company, another young scientist by the name of Busuzima entered work there and the two would become good friends, and also, good rivals. Though, when Steven discovered the evils behind the company, he became a part of one of Busuzima’s experiments and converted into a man-made insect Zoanthrope. Because of how unstable the experiment had made his genetic structure, he could only survive on a special stabilizer developed to retain his body. Feeling betrayed, Steven (now going by the name ‘Stun’) plunges into despair over losing his human form. Slowly, his mind and body decayed though his heart yearned for revenge.

Uranus

From the shadows appears a figure before the fighting Zoanthropes. She is the strongest Zoanthrope, the Chimera, created by Tylon when they converted Uriko. Uranus was cloned from Uriko and became a perfected form of both her Chimera form and her synthetic body. She is known to be the perfect zoanthrope, but cannot hold her chimera form for very long, so she tends to go without transforming. Uranus has the fate to be both the wife of the God of the Sky and the mother of the God of Time, Cronos.

Uriko

Uriko Nonomura (野々村宇理子 Nonomura Uriko) was kidnapped by Tylon as a child to be used in an experiment that created super beast soldiers. She was brainwashed and converted into the body of a woman that stored the power of a synthetic transformation known as ‘Werechimera’. While brainwashed she was forced to fight against her mother and her friend, Alice, whom she had helped to escape from Tylon. But it was thanks to their efforts that she was freed from Tylon’s influence and she changed back to her normal self, returning with her mother and Alice home.

Xion

The ‘XGC’ mark gives Zoanthropes the power to possess the Tabula of a Thousand Beasts, which has been sealed to prevent calamity from breaking free and gathering into one being. He is able to become an ‘unborn’ (an animal that doesn’t exist yet), and Xion wishes to break the seal of the Tabula to revive the power that lies within. His goal is to completely exterminate the Zoanthropes with the ‘XGC’ one by one. Once the Tabula is integrated, the world will change its form. Xion walks his path alone to free the Unborn from a distant dimension. He killed his sister, whose heart was attached to the ‘trivial’ world. Yūgo Ōgami (大神勇吾 Ōgami Yūgo), the series’ protagonist, is a young wolf zoanthrope on a quest to uncover the circumstances of his father’s death. His father, Yūji Ōgami (大神勇二 Ōgami Yūji), was a mercenary said to have died in combat in a South American country. Yūgo also seeks the mercenary Gado, the sole survivor of Yūji’s combat unit.[16] Yūgo and Gadou eventually meet in a secret Tyron Corporation laboratory, where Gado reveals that Yūji was a zoanthrope who fought against the Tyron Corporation’s mind control experiments and conversion process. Yūgo then promises his father that he will destroy their enemies with the powers that he inherited from him.[17]

Other media
Bloody Roar was adapted into a manga drawn by Maruyama Tomowo. It was originally published in Monthly Shōnen Jump. A few themes were used from the games but the scenarios and characters in Maruyama’s version were completely new, though a few of his characters looked a lot like the original game characters. The main stars of the manga were a loner wolf zoanthrope, Fang, and a rabbit girl named Mashiro. Their adventures had them fighting out-of-control beast men and trying to stop an evil creature being released by the gathering of talismans. The manga was released in two volumes during 2001.

In the first three games, artwork by artist Naochika Morishita, also known as CARAMEL MAMA, was used for concept artwork and in game cut scenes.

For their 2000 single “My Console,” the Italian eurodance group Eiffel 65 include Bloody Roar along with several other popular PlayStation titles in the song’s lyrics.

Yūgo appears as a playable character in the 2003 crossover fighting game DreamMix TV World Fighters.

Candy Crush Saga is a free-to-play match-three puzzle video game released by King on April 12, 2012, for Facebook; other versions for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Windows 10 followed. It is a variation of their browser game Candy Crush.[1]
In the game, players complete levels by swapping colored pieces of candy on a game board to make a match of three or more of the same color, eliminating those candies from the board and replacing them with new ones, which could potentially create further matches. Matches of four or more candies create unique candies that act as power-ups with larger board-clearing abilities. Boards have various goals that must be completed within a fixed number of moves or limited amount of time, such as a certain score or collecting a specific number of a type of candy.
Candy Crush Saga is considered one of the first and most successful uses of a freemium model; while the game can be played completely through without spending money, players can buy special actions to help clear more difficult boards, from which King makes its revenues—at its peak the company was reportedly earning almost $1 million per day.[2] Around 2014, over 93 million people were playing Candy Crush Saga, while revenue over a three-month period as reported by King was over $493 million.[3] Five years after its release on mobile, the Candy Crush Saga series has received over 2.7 billion downloads, and the game has been one of the highest-grossing and most-played mobile apps in that time frame. King has since released three related titles, Candy Crush Soda Saga, Candy Crush Jelly Saga, and Candy Crush Friends Saga.

Gameplay

Candy Crush Saga is a “match three” game, where the core gameplay is based on swapping two adjacent candies among several on the gameboard as to make a row or column of at least 3 matching-colored candies. On this match, the matched candies are removed from the board, and candies above them fall into the empty spaces, with new candies appearing from the top of the board. This may create a new matched set of candies, which is automatically cleared in the same manner. The player scores points for these matches and gains progressively more points for chain reactions.[4] Additionally, creating matches of four or more candies will create a special candy that, when matched, can clear a row, column, or other section of the board.[4]
The game is split among many levels, which must be completed in sequence. Each level poses a different challenge to the user, such as achieving a minimum score in a fixed number of moves or clearing candies in a fixed number of moves to bring special ingredients to the bottom of the board. Boards have a number of different configurations and may include special spaces that have their own unique rules, such as spaces covered with jelly that must be cleared by making a match on that space.[4] If the player meets the level’s goal, they will be given from one to three stars based on their score and can proceed onto the next level. Otherwise, they will lose one life and must try again. If the player runs out of lives, they have to wait for some period of real-world time while their lives regenerate before attempting the level again.[4] Completed levels can be replayed if desired.
The game has been expanded with a number of episodes, adding a few dozen new levels per episode as well as new gameplay mechanics. In the game’s first major expansion, the game added a separate set of levels in the Dreamworld. While levels had the same goals, the players had to balance matches of candies of two randomly selected colors to avoid disrupting the sleeping Odus the Owl; if they did, the level was considered lost and the player had to try again. If they collected enough matched candies to fill a meter, the player actived the Moon Struck power: the board was cleared of all candies of those two colors, and the player gained a few turns of additional matches without having to balance colors. After this, Odus returned to sleeping and two new colors were randomly selected for the balance. This continued until the player completed the level or ran out of turns as in the main game. Dreamworld levels used a different set of lives from the main game, allowing the player to switch back and forth between these modes. The Dreamworld is no longer accessible.[5]
In-app purchases
The game is primarily monetized through in-app purchases (through either a credit card, iTunes credits or Google Play credits); players begin with five “lives”, lost whenever a level is failed. This applies to all of King’s games. When they are exhausted, users can either send requests to their Facebook friends for more lives, wait for them to replenish themselves (a life is restored every half-hour), or purchase them. Initially when a player makes a purchase for new lives, they receive five new lives for a specific dollar amount. In a recent update, when a player makes a purchase for new lives, the player receives gold bars, the quantity depending on how much money they spend. Gold bars can be used for new lives, extra moves, boosters or to unlock a new episode. At certain points, primarily at the start of new “episodes”, users must also either purchase or receive a request from at least three friends before they may access the next set of levels. An update meant players only waited for 3 days to unlock the next episode.
Boosters, to make the levels easier, can be bought using in-app purchases.[6] While the game includes freemium content, 97.7% of those playing the game do so for free, while only 2.3% pay.[7]
Characters
Throughout the game, the player solves puzzles so Tiffi (short for Toffette) can solve problems plaguing the residents of the Candy Kingdom. These include tutorial guide Mr. Toffee, whose voice was changed from an over-the-top French accent in the original version of the game into a more modest deep male voice;[8] the Easter Bunny; the shop owner Mr. Yeti; Odus the owl from Dreamworld levels; the villainous Bubblegum Troll; and many others.
In the Candy Crush Jelly Saga, the two main characters that the player plays against are the Jelly Queen and Cupcake Carl.
Development
Prior to the release of Candy Crush Saga, most of King’s games were browser games offered through their website or partner portals such as Yahoo!. Several of their games featured tournament-style gameplay, where players could spend money to enter competitive tourneys for in-game boosts, which served as one of the main form of revenue for the company in addition to in-game item sale microtransactions and advertisements.[9] Around 2009, Facebook began to pull in developers, in particular Zynga, to offer social network games that could be built on its fundamental services; for King, this resulting in a large drop in players that they saw from their game portals within a year. At this point, King started to determine how it could enter the Facebook and the associated mobile game markets, breaking up its web development department to work on Facebook and mobile games in 2010, including bringing several of their existing browser games to those platforms.[10] Most of these existing games were introduced as beta versions to Facebook users, and the company used player counts and feedback to determine which of these titles had the most prospect for moving forward, allowing them to focus more intensive development on those titles while dropping the rest, in the style of a rapid prototyping approach.[11] The Facebook platform allowed them to explore expansion of their existing tournament-style games and the ability to include microtransactions within the game.[12]
In April 2011, King released its first cross-platform (Facebook and mobile) game, Miner Speed,[13] which had a simple match-3 concept that borrowed concepts from Bejeweled that helped the company figure out the transition between Facebook and mobile games for this new direction.[10] King’s first major success in this area followed with Bubble Witch Saga, released in October 2011; by January 2012 it has attracted over 10 million players and was one of fastest rising Facebook games at that time.[14] Bubble Witch Saga introduced the “saga” approach in contrast to typical tile-matching games, where instead of having the game continue through a fixed amount of time or until the player reached an unplayable state, the game was divided into discrete levels that required the player to complete certain goals within a fixed set of moves, and where the next level could only be reached after completing the previous level. These saga elements allowed for the basics of social gameplay, but did not require the time investment that then-popular titles like Zynga’s Farmville required; players could play just for a few minutes each day through the saga model.[15] The success of Bubble Witch Saga establishing King as a viable developer in this arena, becoming the second-largest developer by daily player count on the Facebook platform by April 2012, trailing only Zynga.[10][9]
Candy Crush Saga was selected as King’s next Facebook game based on the popularity of the portal version of Candy Crush, first released in 2011 and which was one of the five most popular games by 2012.[16] The basic ideas from Miner Speed were used to craft the foundation of Candy Crush Saga, adding the “saga” elements from Bubble Witch Saga. Initial ideas for Candy Crush Saga were proposed by King’s chief creative officer, Sebastian Knutsson, around 2011.[10] The game was first released for Facebook in April 2012, at the time featuring only 65 levels.[17] The game quickly gained popularity, gaining more than 4 million players within a few weeks of release.[18]
King later released mobile versions for iOS and Android that same year, adding a feature that allowed mobile users to synchronize their progress with the Facebook version. Knutsson stated that at that time, with Candy Crush Saga as popular as it was on Facebook, they knew that they “had to get it right” in the transition process.[10] King had previously discussed the nature of games that kept their state between a PC and mobile version with Fabrication Games, believing this was a necessary trend in the future of gaming, Both recognized several of the difficulties that would have to be addressed to provide both the progress synchronization and gameplay interface between mouse-driven PC computers and touch-driven mobile devices.[16] King found that one issue with transiting Bubble Witch Saga to mobile was that the gameplay elements were too small for mobile devices, and aimed to correct that for Candy Crush Saga on mobile. The mobile release delay for Candy Crush Saga was in part due to adding the ability to play the mobile version in an offline mode that would still synchronize once the player returned online.[16]
The mobile version helped to boost popularity of the game, attributed to the nature of the game being able to be played in a pick-up-and-go manner ideally suited for mobile devices. Tommy Palm, one of the four developers for Candy Crush Saga, stated that the first weekend numbers after the game’s mobile release were over ten times greater than the estimates they expected.[16] By January 2013, Candy Crush Saga overtook Zynga’s Farmville 2 as the top-played game on the Facebook platform.[19]
Candy Crush Saga was expanded over the years by adding new episodes, each containing a number of new levels. This enabled King to also introduce new gameplay features alongside other game improvements.[10] New features were first tested on King’s own portal to see how players there responded and allowing them to tweak these as needed, then pushed these into the episodes on the Facebook/mobile version.[20] By September 2016, King released its 2000th level for the game to celebrate the milestone of over 1 trillion Candy Crush Saga games having been played.[21][22] More recently, with the game offered as a free-to-play model, King seeks to provide new content on weekly or biweekly basis, including time-limited content. Zacconi saw this approach as a means to keep players, who otherwise have not purchased anything, to keep coming back and playing the game.[23]

According to review aggregator website Metacritic, the game received an average review score of 79/100, indicating generally positive reviews.[24] Ellie Gibson of Eurogamer referred to Candy Crush Saga as 2013’s “Game of the Year”.[25]
Commercial
By 2013, Candy Crush Saga had been downloaded more than 500 million times across Facebook, iOS, and Android devices and considered the most downloaded app from the Apple App Store,[26][27] and had at least 6.7 million active users on a daily basis; the game had a daily revenue of $633,000 from the United States section of the iOS App Store alone.[28] By 2014, the game had over 245 million active players each month but has since dropped off, with that count falling to around 166 million by 2016.[29] It again rose back to 293 million active monthly players by November 2017.[30]
Though initially released with advertising to help with revenue, King removed the advertising in 2013, and solely has earned money from the game in the form of in-app purchases.[29] Only a small percentage of the player base has purchased in-game items, up to around 4%, but this has led to millions of dollars in monthly revenue for King.[29] In 2014, Candy Crush Saga players spent over $1.33 billion on in-app purchases. This is a decline from the previous year, since in the second half of 2013 players spent over $1.04 billion.[7] By 2015, the monthly revenue was estimated at $120 million, but with declining players purchasing in-game items, down to 2% by 2016, that revenue has dropped to just over $53 million per month.[29]Again, by the end of October 2018, the monthly revenue rose to $128 million.[31]
Five years after its release on mobile, the Candy Crush Saga series has received over 2.73 billion downloads.[32] Its revenue for the quarter ending September 2017 was $250 million, having gained significant improvement in year-to-year revenues from 2016.[23] It remains one of the top gross-revenue earnings app for mobile in the four years leading up to 2017.[23]By the end of July 2018, the total revenue earned by this game stood at $3.91 billion.[31]
Candy Crush received particular mention in Hong Kong media, with reports that one in seven Hong Kong citizens plays the game.[33] In December 2013, King entered the Japanese market with a series of television commercials in Japan, and by December 4 it had become the 23rd most downloaded game in Japan on Android devices and number 1 most downloaded from the App Store.[34]It is also the most popular game in the UK of all time.[31]
Player demographics
58% of the players are women, while 46% of the players are of Gen X, though more youths and children play it.[31]
Awards
Candy Crush Saga won the People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Mobile Game 2016. Other nominees were Fruit Ninja, Despicable Me: Minion Rush, Plants vs Zombies and Temple Run.[35] It was also the winner of 9th International Mobile Gaming Awards for the Best Social Game.[36]
Controversy
King filed for applications for trademarks on the word “candy” in January 2013 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, which became publicly known in January 2014.[37] News of these pending trademarks raised concerns from other developers, fearing that King would use their trademark to intimidate smaller developers.[38] In response to this criticism, King decided not to pursue the trademark.[39]
The mobile game known as CandySwipe created in 2010, two years prior to the release of Candy Crush Saga, had many similarities that independent app developer Albert Ransom and maker of CandySwipe picked up on as Candy Crush Saga became more successful. Following news of the “candy” trademark, Ransom issued a statement in February 2014, claiming that King intentionally copied elements from his own game including the app icon, the art for the candy pieces, and sound effects like the level-completion “Sweet!”.[40] While details were not given, Ransom stated that he “amicably” resolved the matter with King by April of that year.[41]
During this same period, it was discovered that King had applied for a trademark on the word “saga”, and they had taken action against Stoic, the developers of The Banner Saga; King had attempted to block Stoic’s registration of “The Banner Saga”, and after the game released in January 2014, it issued a cease and desist letter to the developers (King’s trademark application was still pending approval at this time).[42] Similar to the CandySwipe situation, Stoic announced in April 2014 that the situation with King had been resolved with both sides coming to an agreement allowing Stoic to continue to use their name.[43]
Candy Crush Saga also received mixed reactions when it was announced that King had struck a deal with Microsoft to automatically install/reinstall the game on devices that have been upgraded to Windows 10 Home.[44]
Candy Crush Saga is considered to be an addictive game as it uses a compulsion loop that provides pleasurable reinforcement the more one plays.[45][46] The game was investigated by the UK Office of Fair Trading concerning exploitative game mechanics with regards to younger users.[47]However, it still remains as the top-grossing mobile game of all time in the United Kingdom.
Sequels
In May 2014, a sequel titled Candy Crush Soda Saga was soft launched by King, with a similar design but new gameplay dynamics, such as a soda bottle piece that can shift gravity.[48][49] As of January 2018, there are over 2080 Candy Crush Soda Saga levels.[citation needed]
On October 20, 2014, the Facebook version of Candy Crush Soda Saga was released worldwide[50] and the mobile app was released in November on the Android and iOS platforms.[51][52][53] The app was subsequently made available for Windows 10 and Windows Phone in October 2015. Among other gameplay changes, Candy Crush Soda Saga introduces soda candies that release soda that fill the puzzle board from the bottom up, causing candies to float up to the highest soda level.
In September 2015, another sequel named Candy Crush Jelly Saga was soft-launched in various countries for the Android platform.[54] Candy Crush Jelly Saga was released worldwide in January 2016.[54] Initially it was not made available in Facebook unlike in previous titles, but was released on Android and iOS in May 2016. The Facebook version appears to no longer require Adobe Flash to play. The game introduces jelly-filled squares. Matches made with candies occupying jelly-filled squares will generally cause all squares that were part of the match to become jelly-filled, with the goal of making all squares on the gameboard filled with jelly to complete the puzzle.
A third sequel, Candy Crush Friends Saga,[55] was released on both iOS and Android in October 2018. Prior to each round, the player may have the ability to select one of the series’ characters to assist with the puzzle. Each character has a power that activates after a certain number of candies of a specific color are collected, such as converting a candy on the board to a wrapped candy.[56] This game earned $5.6 million in its first month, and $10 million by June 2018.[57]
Television show

CBS produced a live-action Candy Crush game show in partnership with King that premiered on July 9, 2017.[58] It was an hour-long competition among several two-person teams using interactive games that are based on Candy Crush. The show was produced by Lionsgate with executive producer Matt Kunitz, and with collaboration by Sebastian Knutsson, the creative developer of the first Candy Crush game.[59] Mario Lopez hosted the show.[60]
Four teams play in each episode doing various challenges based on the Candy Crush game, with the winning team earning a guaranteed $100,000.
In popular culture
The game is also featured in Psy’s music video “Gentleman”.[61] Part of The Emoji Movie takes place within Candy Crush Saga.[62] Candy Crush Saga was used as a challenge theme for an episode of the sixth season of Project Runway All Stars.[63]

Shadow Fight 2 is a role-playing fighting game developed by. The first version of the game was soft launched on October 9, 2013, while the game was later released worldwide on May 1, 2014, on both Android and iOS platforms, and on January 27, 2015, it was released on Windows 8 and 8.1. The game was later to the as a downloadable title on September 13, 2018.[1] to the available o title on February 14, 2019

This installment introduces the game’s events with an estimated prologue. In this introduction, the narrator (who is the main character) reveals that he was a legendary combatant. On his travels to find a worthy opponent, he came across and opened the Gates of Shadows, releasing the demons and effectively reducing himself to a shadow. He defeats six shadow demons including-  Drakaina and with many other warriors including the demon’s bodyguards and other fighters in his journey of his shadow life. Continuing the theme of its predecessor, players begin the game as an unarmed silhouette. They are then given simple tutorials which familiarize them with the game.

The second demon Shadow faces are Hermit, an old magician who opened his own school of fighting and magic. Despite him using Magic, Shadow wins, takes the seal and continues his journey. The third demon is Butcher, the leader of a juvenile gang who tries to intimidate Shadow. However, like the previous 2 demons, he is defeated and Shadow continues his journey, after taking his seal. The fourth demon is , the daughter of a pirate king. After Shadow defeats her and takes the seal, he continues and encounters the fifth demon, Widow. She is a very skilled warrior whose special power is that she can make every man fall for her. However, Shadow is immune to her charm and defeats her, taking her seal.

The final demon is Shogun, a skilled samurai who served his master well until his death. Shogun destroyed the town he once ruled and is also the one responsible for guarding the Gates. Shogun proves to be the most difficult demon to defeat, as he can summon his five bodyguards during his 1 vs 1 fight with Shadow. Luckily, Shadow defeats him and takes the final seal. Shadow and May reach the Gates of Shadow, but all the 6 demons are guarding it, to prevent Shadow from releasing Titan as well, their king, whom all of the demons are afraid of. Shadow defeats all the demons and uses the 6 seals collected from them to seal the Gates back. However, Titan captures May. Now, Shadow is forced to open the Gates again and enter the other world to rescue her. Shadow returns to each of the 6 towns and defeats the demons for the third time, in order to learn how to break their seals. After he defeats all the demons and breaks the seals, Shadow finally opens the Gates again and enters the Shadow World, on his own.

There, Shadow encounters new demons, the first one being Shroud, a warrior who was defeated by Titan and became one of his slaves. Shadow is almost defeated by Shroud, but luckily he is saved by Kali who immobilizes Shroud. Kali takes Shadow to a hideout where he meets Cypher, the leader of a small rebellion that tries to fight against Titan. Cypher tells Shadow that Titan is actually an alien conqueror who managed to capture many worlds and now wants his world as well. Shadow meets the other members of the rebellion, who are aliens from the worlds captured by Titan, and defeats them to prove his skills and earn their trust. Shadow also defeats Cypher in a friendly match, who tells him that he might be the one destined to defeat Titan.

Kali takes Shadow to Ancient, a powerful being and the last one of his kind, who used to live here before Titan’s arrival. Ancient tests Shadow by sending ghost of former warriors to fight him, and then he battles Shadow himself. Ancient is defeated and agrees might be indeed the hope they need. They are interrupted by Shroud who fights Shadow again. This time, however, Shroud is arrested by Cypher’s men and taken the prisoner to the rebellion’s hideout. Ancient uses his powers to disguise Shadow as one of Titan’s soldiers and tells him to fight in a Tournament held in the Incubator, the place where Titan makes his soldiers. The winner would become one of Titan’s elite troopers, so this would be a good way for Shadow to approach Titan.

After some victories in the Tournament, Shadow is contacted by Cypher who tells him that Shroud has lost his mind and has been tracked by another of Titan’s soldiers, the mysterious Justice, who freed Shroud. He took everyone prisoner, forcing Shadow to come to the rebellion’s hideout. Shadow defeats Shroud again and discovers that Justice is actually May, completely under Titan’s mind control. She is taken prisoner as well, while Shadow goes to face Titan and his bodyguards. After Shadow defeats all the bodyguards (who are evil versions of him from another dimension), Titan, impressed by Shadow’s power and skills, summons May who reveals that she killed everyone in the hideout. Shadow defeats May and frees her from Titan’s control. Kali tells May to return to her world, while Shadow faces Titan in a final battle.

Shadow defeats Titan, whose body is totally destroyed. Shadow is caught in the explosion but manages to return to the Gates and, from there, to his world just in time. Shadow is now a human again, much to May’s surprise. He hugs May and the two walk away into the horizon, back to their home. In the final scene, a mysterious shadow is seen slithering away as well.

Shadow Fight 2 is a 2D fighting game in which players must win the majority of 3 matches against computer-controlled opponents.[2] The game also has RPG elements that let players upgrade their armor, weapons, skills, and magic.[2] The game’s characters are entirely silhouettes, but the animations are realistic and physics-based.[2]
